What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth is one of the oldest known celebrations of the ending of slavery.
From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the
African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States.
Juneteenth today, celebrates African American freedom while encouraging
self-development and respect for all cultures.
